From our Rio Grande City shop, Mission is a drive of roughly 50 minutes, about 40 miles down US-83 and I-2, and it is the first of the big Hidalgo County cities we reach heading east. Founded in 1907 and home to about 85,800 people at the 2020 Census, it mixes older streets from its citrus years with RV resorts, park-model communities and mobile-home parks that fill each winter. That combination is why Mission jobs lean toward heat pump service and installs, ductless systems and mobile-home equipment, along with ordinary AC repair. Because of the drive, we book Mission work into planned windows rather than racing a local truck to a sudden breakdown.
La Lomita, Ruby Reds and the Bentsen side of town
Mission takes its name from La Lomita, the small chapel the Oblate Fathers first built of adobe in 1865, about three miles from the present city. The Ruby Red name started nearby too. A Texas Historical Commission marker credits A. E. Henninger of Mission and Dr. J. R. Webb of Donna with finding red grapefruit in their orchards in 1929, and Henninger patented his as the Ruby Red. The city still calls itself the Home of the Grapefruit, and the Texas Citrus Fiesta it started in December 1932 still ends each January with the Parade of Oranges on Conway Avenue.

Southwest of town, Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park covers 764 acres off FM 2062 and serves as headquarters of the World Birding Center, with the National Butterfly Center about a mile away. The Anzalduas International Bridge, opened in December 2009, crosses the river on Mission's western edge.
Between Mission and our Rio Grande City base
From Mission, take I-2/US-83 west past Palmview and La Joya, continue on US-83 where the freeway ends, and follow it through Sullivan City and Garceño into Rio Grande City.

Get DirectionsWinter visitors, grove-era houses and park homes
A Texas House resolution puts Mission at about 50 RV parks and roughly 25,000 seasonal residents in the coldest months. Park models and mobile homes sit close together on small lots, so outdoor units get tucked beside skirting or mounted on wall brackets where airflow is tight. Many of these homes sit empty from spring to fall, which lets drains dry out, wasps nest in cabinets and filters gather dust before anyone turns the system back on.

The older neighborhoods closer to the original town have frame and block houses, many enlarged room by room over the years. An addition or closed-in porch often sits beyond the reach of the original ducts, and a ductless mini-split is frequently the cleaner way to cool an addition or a closed-in porch.
What do Mission homes and parks ask us to handle?
These are the services that fit Mission's mix of seasonal homes, long-time residences and small businesses.

Heat Pumps in Mission
Roughly 25,000 seasonal residents arrive in Mission each winter expecting cool afternoons and warm nights, and a heat pump handles both from one outdoor unit on a small park-model pad.

Mobile Home AC in Mission

AC Repair in Mission
Older frame and block homes near the original town often run aging split systems that fail first in the hottest weeks, long after the winter visitors have headed north.

Commercial HVAC in Mission
RV park clubhouses, shops and offices along the I-2 and Conway Avenue corridors need cooling that holds up through a long season, then a heating check before the winter crowd returns.

AC Maintenance in Mission
Seasonal homes in Mission go months without running, then face full-time cooling the week owners return; a tune-up before that first restart flushes the drain, clears nests and confirms refrigerant pressures.

Fall is the busiest window for Mission park homes, since owners want heating and cooling confirmed before they drive south. We schedule those checks ahead and group nearby addresses so one trip covers several homes. Repairs during the year get a booked window, with same-day service often possible when the schedule allows. Inside a park, we check in at the office if required, keep trucks off neighbors' lots, and leave the site as tidy as we found it.

Questions about heat pumps and park homes in Mission?
Can you service my park model before I arrive for the winter?
Yes, if the park office or a neighbor can give us access to the outdoor unit and the inside of the home. Park models in Mission's RV resorts often sit closed from spring to fall, so a fall visit booked in advance lets us group several of them on one trip. We check cooling and heating modes, clean the coils and filters, clear the drain, and send you a short report.
Is a heat pump worth it when Mission winters are so short?
For most homes that want any heat at all, a heat pump is the efficient choice, because it moves heat rather than making it with resistance strips. The strips still matter as backup on the rare hard freeze, like the one in February 2021. We size the system for summer cooling first, then confirm the heating side covers the cool January nights that bring thousands of winter residents to Mission.
Do RV and mobile-home park rules affect where a unit can go?
Often they do. Mission has around 50 RV parks, and many of them set rules on setbacks, pad placement and how equipment looks from the street, and some require approval before an outdoor unit moves. Ask your park office first, and share any written rules with us before the install so the plan fits on the first visit.
