Murillo homeowners can book AC installation, new-construction HVAC and maintenance with 956 Multi Service; our trucks make the trip from Rio Grande City in about an hour and five minutes. The community has been adding people steadily. The Census counted 7,344 residents in 2010 and 9,158 in 2020, a gain of about 25 percent, and that came even after Edinburg annexed roughly 2,000 acres of the area in 2013. Growth like that means a lot of newer houses, many of them owner-built, and the big question in those homes is fit. A system that is too large for the house can cost more and still leave rooms damp.

Newer builds east of Edinburg and the oversizing trap

Murillo sits on flat former farmland with Edinburg to the west, San Juan to the south and Lopezville to the southwest. Recent subdivision homes and owner-built houses make up much of what we see, and many were fitted with whatever tonnage was on hand rather than what a load calculation called for.

Bigger feels safer in Valley heat, but it backfires. An oversized condenser short-cycles, wears its compressor faster and never runs long enough to dry the air. Federal rules for our region already set the floor at 14.3 SEER2 for most home-sized split systems, so a correctly sized efficient unit usually beats a larger cheap one on comfort and bills.

Duct design matters just as much. Long flex runs and a single small return in a new attic choke airflow, and the unit gets blamed.

What a Murillo appointment looks like

We drive up I-69C through Edinburg or come in from the south through San Juan, depending on the address. For a replacement or install estimate, the technician measures rooms, windows and insulation, checks the existing ducts and returns, and walks you through options at different efficiency levels.

For homes still under construction, we prefer to visit while the framing is open so duct paths and the equipment pad can be planned together. Maintenance visits are shorter: coil rinse, drain flush, electrical checks and refrigerant readings.

AC Installation in Murillo

Murillo grew from 7,344 to 9,158 residents between 2010 and 2020, and many of those newer homes carry tonnage picked off the truck. A load calculation decides the size before you buy a replacement.

New Construction HVAC in Murillo

Owner-builders on Murillo's flat former farm lots can plan duct routes, return grilles, the attic platform and the condenser pad while the framing is still open, which costs far less than fixing it later.

AC Maintenance in Murillo

Newer high-efficiency equipment east of Edinburg keeps its SEER2 rating only while the coil stays clean and the drain flows, so a spring visit before the long cooling season protects the investment.

Mini-Split Installation in Murillo

Garage conversions, casitas and second-story rooms added to Murillo homes are often too far from the main trunk, and a ductless head cools them without forcing a longer, weaker duct run.

Ductwork in Murillo

In new Murillo attics, a single small return and long sagging flex runs can choke a correctly sized unit. Measuring static pressure shows whether the ducts, not the equipment, are holding the house back.

A sticky new house is often set with the fan on, which puts moisture back into the air. A thermostat matched to the equipment, with the right fan and humidity settings, fixes much of that in Murillo homes.

Inside Edinburg limits or still county? The 2013 annexation line

When Edinburg annexed about 2,000 acres of the old Murillo area in 2013, some addresses moved inside city limits while their neighbors stayed unincorporated. That matters for an install or a new build. Lots inside the city follow the City of Edinburg's permit and inspection process, so check your property's status with the city before the project starts. We can work either way; the paperwork just changes.

The area itself is flat, about 95 feet above sea level, with 6.9 square miles of land and no water area. Its households have long run young and large: the 2000 Census put the median age at 24 and the average household at 4.11 people. Busy, full homes like that push run times up and make moisture control part of every sizing decision.

Edinburg CISD territory along Wisconsin and Cesar Chavez roads

Murillo falls within Edinburg CISD, and roads such as Wisconsin Road and Cesar Chavez Road tie it into the east side of the city. M. D. Betts and Dr. Thomas Esparza elementary schools sit inside the CDP, and high school students are zoned to Edinburg High. The community first appeared in the 2000 census under a misspelled name, Nurillo, before the Census Bureau corrected it. To the north lies the Cesar Chavez community, and the 78542 ZIP covers much of the area.

Questions Murillo homeowners ask about sizing and new builds?

Our new house in Murillo feels sticky even though the AC is big. Why?

An oversized unit cools the air fast and shuts off before it has run long enough to pull moisture out. The thermostat is satisfied, but the house stays clammy and the system cycles on and off all day. A load calculation tells us whether the tonnage fits the house. Sometimes the fix is airflow or fan settings rather than new equipment. In Murillo, where the population grew about 25 percent in the 2010s, plenty of newer homes got equipment sized by habit, so we check before assuming.

When should we bring in an HVAC contractor if we are building our own home?

Before framing is finished. Duct paths, return air locations, the attic platform and the outdoor pad are much easier to plan with open walls. We can review your floor plan, work out the load and rough in the ducts, then return to set equipment once the house is closed in. Also confirm whether your lot is inside the land Edinburg annexed in 2013, since city permits apply there.

Our mailing address says Edinburg but we live in Murillo. Do you cover us?

Yes. Murillo homes use the 78542 ZIP, the same as much of east Edinburg, and we serve both. Give us your street address when you call and we will plan the route from there.
